Alex Varenne

Between 1971 and 2000, Alex Varenne produced more than thirty comic strip albums, working either solo or in collaboration. Ardeur and Angoisse et colère (in collaboration with his brother Daniel) are two titles that immediately spring to mind, as does of course Varenne's erotic œuvre (Emma Jaguar, Carré noir sur dames blanches, Les Larmes du sexe, Amours fous, etc.) and his substantial body of illustrations in the same vein. Varenne has been painting for over twenty years now, demonstrating that same talent for capturing the essence of the female sex – elegantly, in images that are more or less explicit. Varenne the artist is a libertine in love with the very concept of Woman.
