Presentation

Few comics authors draw with such precision or are as comfortable with colour as Béatrice Tillier. Each of her panels, in direct colour, is staggeringly detailed and instantly plunges her readers into the heart of the story. While growing up in the Ardèche countryside fostered her love of nature, Tiller’s trips to Europe with her grandmother opened her eyes to architectural and artistic riches which sparked an interest in drawing. She has been navigating between these two passions ever since. Tillier studied literature, continuing to draw in her spare time, and then went on to attend art school. From her earliest days as a professional artist, she juggled illustration work and comic strip. The trilogy Fée et tendres automates (Éditions Vents d'Ouest) won numerous prizes and brought her instant recognition as a comics artist. Béatrice Tillier decided this was the way forward for her. An artist passionate about detail and eager to extract the emotional potential of her characters, she paints life in terms of fairy tale and fantasy – notably in the trilogy Le Bois des vierges, written by Jean Dufaux and published by Éditions Delcourt. In 2015, Béatrice illustrated the new cycle of La Complainte des landes perdues, taking over from Philippe Delaby and once again proving herself more than adequate to the task – an artist from whom we can expect greater and greater things.
