From 6 March to 3 April 2021, Huberty & Breyne's Brussels gallery is hosting an exhibition of work by François Avril, a total of 324 drawings.
This selection, in the form of a narrative, is a delicate and sensitive portrayal of François Avril's artistic universe. These are drawings that have been created over many years, either for the purposes of a particular composition or for the sheer pleasure of the act of drawing itself. Extracted from the artist's notebooks and boxes, they have been secreted away in his studio until now, unseen and unpublished.
On view to the public for the first time, these beautiful drawings - a combination of country scenes, sea- and cityscapes - offer a complete panorama of the artist's oeuvre. The exhibition reveals the diversity of Avril's graphic language and his capacity for creating ever new approaches to his subject matter - a fine brush flitting over a sheet of white paper, colour crayons splurged on to the pages of a notebook, frenzied pen strokes whipping across the paper with no forethought... Produced between 2007 and 2021, these 324 drawings take viewers on a marvellous journey through a work of great rarity.
To coincide with this exhibition, the Huberty & Breyne Gallery, in partnership with the magazine Les Arts Dessinées, is publishing "AVRIL, 324 DESSINS", which includes all the works on show.
Due to the new sanitary measures, the gallery is only accessible by appointment from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Make an appointment.
