Presentation

Alain Huberty and Marc Breyne are delighted to be welcoming Philippe Berthet to their Brussels gallery, from 22 February to 23 March 2019, for an exhibition entitled "Pin-Up".
Philippe Berthet is in love. How could it be otherwise when he is so adept at capturing his elegant silhouettes on paper — Berthet draws his inspiration directly from the very essence of glamour.
In the grand tradition of photographers such as Peter Gowland, Andre de Dienes, Howell Conant and Bunny Yeager, he succeeds in portraying feminine figures that are utterly alluring without ever being in the least vulgar. Berthet's women are proud, sure of themselves, as sure of their attractions as they are of their attire. Their poses are carefully studied, carefully rationalised. Each of these women will charm you, infallibly.
The inspiration for the exhibition comes from Philippe Berthet's famous Pin-Up series, co-created with comics writer Yann and published by Dargaud; but Berthet broadens the scope of his original project and its central character, Dottie.
Aside from some fifty or so original plates, viewers will be treated to sketches, colour illustrations and original paintings of incredible heroines, both in colour and in black and white, in addition to a series of "bad girls" that will surprise them. In total, some hundred works of exceptional quality are waiting to be discovered at place du Châtelain.
