Stéphane TRAPIER Rond-Point, 20 ans de théâtre en affiches
Presentation
From 9 December 2022 to 31 December 2022, the Huberty & Breyne | Les Arts dessinés gallery is delighted to be hosting a solo exhibition celebrating the work of the French artist Stéphane Trapier.
A comic book author and illustrator, Trapier (born on 15 July 1964) studied at the Paris-Cergy National Art School and made artworks in the streets of Paris with Blek le Rat before turning to illustration and graphic art. His first drawings appeared in the 1980s in the magazines Tintin reporter and Je bouquine and in publications by Bayard, Syros and Mango.
Trapier co-founded the Atalante agency, assuming the role of art director and graphic designer for several theatres, art centres and other cultural institutions, notably the Paris Opera, and achieving particular success in 2004 when he began a close collaboration with the Théâtre du Rond-Point, designing posters and programmes for the theatre. Thanks to this association, Trapier was to illustrate two novels written by the director of the Rond-Pont, Jean-Michel Ribes: Je n'aime pas la campagne, sauf dans le TGV, elle va plus vite (Éditions Xavier Barral, 2006) and J'ai encore oublié saint Louis, ou les nouvelles aventures de l'Histoire de France (Actes Sud, 2009).
For several years now, Trapier has also been contributing illustrations to magazines such as Le Monde, Télérama, XXI, Le 1 and Vents contraires and comics, on a regular basis, to Fluide glacial. His stand-out series include Giscard et ses amis, Cécilia, 93A, Carla & friends and Platon & Hannah Arendt, apprentis philosophes.
In 2014, Éditions Matière brought out the humorous Tarzan contre la vie chère and in 2020 Mes plus grands succès appeared from Éditions Casterman. Two new books have followed: Rond-Point, 20 ans de théâtre en affiches (Éditions de La Table Ronde) and Les Saucisses de l'archiduchesse (Éditions Matière).
For his exhibition at the Huberty & Breyne | Les Arts dessinés gallery, Stéphane Tapier is showing some sixty or so works from Rond-Point, 20 ans de théâtre en affiches.
