ANDREAS
Retrospective

A page of drawing by Andreas is a mystery unto itself, fascinating, intriguing, challenging and evoking memories of other readings that provide so many portals into the artist’s singular world. Since the late 1970s, Andréas has been constructing, album by album, an oeuvre unlike any other. Drawing his inspiration from the works of Lovecraft and Poe, and of Bernie Wrightson and Neil Adams, he has used these fine sources of influence as a springboard to create such memorable series as Rork, Capricorne and Arq, and shorter but equally powerful stories like Cyrrus-Mil, Cromwell Stone and Raffington Event. A constant thread running through this multi-facetted oeuvre is the artist’s skilful encapsulation of a complex narrative coupled with a fascination for architecture. A wind of mystery and adventure blows through these drawings, which demonstrate an admirable sense of rhythm and absolute mastery of the art of inking.
