Presentation
For this summer exhibition, Huberty & Breyne gallery is showing a dozen new engravings and a collection of twenty-four freehand drawings that are characterised by a precise drawing style coupled with a lightness of touch.
This refreshing approach is the work of Xavier Löwenthal, an illustrator who succeeds in sketching the imagery of the everyday – using just a handful of lines – while importing an element of dreamy melancholy into the work.
We are simultaneously invited to accompany the artist on a journey via a series of drawings taken from his own holiday sketchbooks, since whether he is in a Baroque church or a port in Brittany, Xavier Löwenthal is never without his pencil – his means of capturing the moment.
