Florence Cestac is a French cartoonist, illustrator and former publisher. She was born in Pont-Audemer in 1949. Co-founder of Éditions Futuropolis with Étienne Robial, she also contributed to several comics magazines in the 1970s (Métal hurlant, L'Écho des savanes, Charlie Mensuel, (À suivre), Pilote, Ah ! Nana, etc), becoming a household name thanks to her character Harry Mickson, an unlikely cross between Mickey Mouse and the fictional detective Harry Dickson. While her animal characters and rounded style of drawing appeal to readers of every generation, Florence Cestac nevertheless asks serious questions about the world we live in.

This latest album, Ginette, published as part of the ?BD Cul? collection (editions Le Monte-en-l'air), demonstrates, once again, Cestac?s ability to take on any subject and tackle it with humour. Through the character of Ginette, a retired prostitute, the author plays with the conventions of erotic cartoons in order to examine the different types of men that exist in our society, their declared sexuality and private predilections frequently at odds. Whether she uses several frames or full-page illustrations, Cestac succeeds in combining humour and eroticism in elegant graphics that really pack a punch.

Huberty & Breyne?s Paris gallery is delighted to be hosting an exhibition in its Espace Rencontres showing a selection of original plates from Ginette, along with a dozen or so drawings from the album which Cestac co-published with Gideo Defoe, Le Sexe tout bête: La sexualité des animaux petits et grands, a witty examination of human relationships from the point of view of animal sexuality.
