Roxane LUMERET Scènes de la vie quotidienne
Presentation
From 3 to 26 November 2022, Huberty & Breyne ? Les Arts dessinés is delighted to be hosting a solo exhibition dedicated to the work of the French artist Roxane Lumeret.
Born in Alsace, in 1988, Lumeret studied at the Arts High School of the Rhine, in Strasbourg, where she currently lives and works.
She is widely known for her children?s books, published by Albin Michel and dealing with subject matter unusual for the genre, such as bereavement (L?Enciellement de Maman, 2015), social class (Il était une fois une princesse et une petite fille, 2017), animal rights (Le Grand Chien et Moi, 2018) and ?paleo-confectionery? (Le Caramel du Jurassique, 2020, awarded the ?Pépite? for the best illustrated book at the Montreuil Children?s Book Fair).
Lumeret?s most obviously adult book to date, Coup de Frein sur la Côte, was published by Les Requins Marteaux in 2016.
Her gouaches typically display large flat areas of pastel colour and are masterpieces of precision, skill and originality. Looking at a Lumeret image, the viewer frequently has the sense of being present at a crime scene inhabited by bizarre creatures and full of disturbing details and weird, dreamlike paraphernalia.
Lumeret has contributed illustrations to a variety of publications and organisations (Bendorf, Central Vapeur, Die Zeit, Libération, The New York Times, The Parisianer) and extended her work into the field of animation, notably with Hématome (co-created with Jocelyn Charles and awarded the Prize for Best Video Clip in 2021), a music video made for the French pop band L?Impératrice.
This is the first time that Roxane Lumeret has shown her work at the Galerie Les Arts dessinés.
Private view: Tuesday 8 November 2022, from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, in the presence of the artist
