PARIS | Les Arts dessinés

14 Apr > 6 May 2023

Presentation

The Huberty & Breyne | Les Arts dessinés gallery is delighted to be hosting a retrospective exhibition of the work of artist Martin Jarrie (Vendée, 1953) from 14 April to 6 May 2023.

Martin Jarrie is a painter and illustrator who, since 1981, has been living and working in Paris. His early drawings were in a documentary, hyperrealist style, but Jarrie later moved towards a freer, more pictorial approach influenced by surrealism, the Italian primitives, art brut and contemporary art. He was already working at the time for the French and foreign press and in advertising and publishing (both in France and abroad).

Examples of his work for the French press are to be found in Le Monde, XXI, L?Obs and La Vie, and in the United States he has contributed, notably, to The New Yorker and The New York Times Book Review. Jarrie has received several prizes for his illustrations.

A retrospective of his work was organised by the Musée de l?illustration de Moulins in 2007 and by the Electricity Museum in Lisbon as part of the Illustrarte Biennial, in early 2012. His exhibition at the Museum Belvédère, in the Netherlands, in 2020 was a huge success. His last album, Les deux géants, was published in October 2021 by Éditions HongFei.

A selection of original - and highly celebrated - works are being offered for sale during the three weeks of the exhibition.
