Ten years ago, Alain Huberty and Marc Breyne exhibited the first piece of cartoon art at the BRAFA Art Fair: the original cover of Hergé's Les Cigares du pharaon. Since then, the two gallerists have produced one surprise after another at the show, offering a mixture of contemporary works and classic masterpieces of the Ninth Art.
To mark their tenth BRAFA contribution, the Huberty & Breyne Gallery is promising a meaningful dialogue between pivotal figures of the comics world like HERGÉ, Jacques MARTIN and Victor HUBINON, and contemporary artists such as François AVRIL, Nicolas de CRÉCY, Jean-Claude GÖTTING, Miles HYMAN, Jacques de LOUSTAL, MIDAM and ZEP.
A remarkable drawing by Hergé is likely to be one of the main attractions on stand 129A, of huge interest to collectors and art lovers alike. The drawing - executed in Indian ink, for a jigsaw puzzle in 1970 - relates to a key scene in the Temple du Soleil album, illustrating the moment when Tintin, Milou, Captain Haddock and young Zorrino burst into the temple to free Professor Calculus, who has been taken prisoner by the Incas.
Every year, fans of Philippe Geluck's wryly humorous Cat are treated to more delicious satire, and this year's BRAFA is no exception, with drawings, sculptures and paintings executed, as usual, specially for the fair.
