Jean ROBA Rétrospective Boule et Bill

Presentation

Boule et Bill is celebrating its 65th birthday with its very first retrospective in Brussels

From 29 November 2024 to 25 January 2025, the Huberty & Breyne gallery in Brussels is hosting a non-commercial exhibition dedicated to showcasing the work of the celebrated Belgian comics author Jean Roba.

This Boule et Bill retrospective, organised in collaboration with the Fondation Roba and Éditions Dargaud, brings together some hundred original plates never before shown to the public.

The popular comic first appeared in Spirou magazine in 1959 and little Boule and his dog Bill quickly wormed their way into people’s hearts and homes. The simple, likeable family and the familiar gags immediately won over the public and for more than forty years Jean Roba continued to delight readers with moments of light-hearted laughter in the lives of his charming and rather silly characters.

Since his death in 2006, Roba’s 1,149 original plates have been safeguarded by the Fondation Roba, in line with their creator’s wishes. Roba’s beautifully simple and humorous œuvre – a veritable jewel of the Belgian comic tradition – is being presented to the public thanks to this free exhibition/event – a unique opportunity to rediscover those famous characters so many of us knew and loved as we were growing up.
