Presentation
Huberty & Breyne is showcasing recent creations by François Avril, in which the artist tackles the idea of the “painting within a painting”, or how one work of art can reveal another.
The paintings and drawings on show here offer a somewhat altered vision of Avril’s artistic universe. While the urban landscapes remain the same – poetic, silent, rational and anchored in a certain reality – there has been a shift in emphasis. Shop windows now accommodate sculptures of indeterminate forms and building facades have become abstract paintings.
Thanks to this new approach, the artist succeeds in bringing together realism and abstraction, container and content, while interrogating the viewer about the presence of the frame as limiting the existence of the work of art.
