Bruxelles

20 Sep > 19 Oct 2019

Presentation

From 20 September to 19 October 2019, the Huberty & Breyne Brussels gallery is showing the latest works by François Avril ? a series of drawings and paintings on the theme of landscape and, more especially, houses isolated in the landscape. As part of the exhibition, the gallery will also be showing ? for the first time ? several large sculptures by the artist displayed at Château Beychevelle, in France, during the summer.
François Avril produced all these works at his home in Port Blanc, in Côtes-d?Armor, taking his inspiration from the Breton landscape. While best known for his paintings of urban scenes, Avril enjoys the peace and tranquillity of this remote corner of France. Gazing out to sea, he observes the delicate line of the horizon, the pattern of the trees fringing the ocean, the jumbled rocky outcrops and the distant glimmers of light. ?I paint what is in front of me,? he tells us, recreating on paper or canvas familiar landscapes filtered through memory and imagination ? great bare expanses where we discern the odd sign of life ? a lighted house, faint shadowy figures...
