Presentation
Three artists, and three visions of the Tropics. A themed exhibition that compares and contrasts the works of Nathalie Dieterlé, Rebecca Romeo and Alain Poncelet, each of whom brings us their own warm-hearted vision of places real or imagined.
Nathalie Dierterlé, author of Zékéyé, la colère du géant (Hachette, Ribambelle collection), shares with us an idyllic vision of our towns and villages bursting with a riot of tropical vegetation and teeming with brightly coloured birds. Maybe it is those six years Nathalie Dierterlé spent in Cameroon as a child that are influencing the artist’s brush today, their colours seeping into her ink palette...
Rebecca Romeo is passionate about animals and loves drawing them – forests teeming with animals – as the books published by Mila Éditions and La Librairie des Écoles testify. Each of Romeo’s drawings is an invitation au voyage, taking us to a place that would make Henri Rousseau feel instantly at home – a dreamlike world full of bright colours and luxuriant vegetation, where the artist’s eye for detail combines with her delight in multiple textures.
Alain Poncelet is an artist who loves to travel the world. For this exhibition, he has chosen to show extracts from the notebooks he made in Havana in November 2018. His watercolours distil the beauty of Cuba’s sun-drenched capital, capturing precious moments and unusual details, and plunging viewers into the very heart of the Tropics.
