Jean-Claude GÖTTING Version originale sous-titrée français
Presentation
From 6 to 29 October 2022, the Huberty & Breyne - Les Arts dessinés gallery is delighted to be hosting a double exhibition dedicated to the work of two talented artists, illustrators and comic book creators Jean-Claude Götting and François Roca.
On display will be a combination of plates, illustrations and original drawings that demonstrate the duo's creative approach to drawing, the originality of their ideas and their sheer technical brilliance.
Jean-Claude Götting is best known for creating the covers for the French editions of the Harry Potter novels, J. K. Rowling's cult series. Born in Paris in 1963, he studied at the Duperré School of Applied Arts and published his first comic strips in the fanzine PLGPPUR (Plein la gueule pour pas un rond).
His first album, Crève-coeur, published by Futuropolis in 1985, was awarded the prize for best first album at the Angoulême Festival. The jury was particularly impressed by his gouache inking technique using a foam roller to produce a speckled grey tone and introduce effects of light and relief into his drawings. Crève-coeur was followed by Détours, La serviette noire, La fille du modèle and L'option Stravinsky.
Götting later shifted his attention to illustration (The New Yorker, Libération, Lire and Le Nouvel Observateur), painting and children's books.
In this, his first exhibition for the Les Arts dessinés gallery, viewers will be treated to drawings which the artist made for Version Originale: Sous-titrée français, plus illustrations for the Théâtre des Célestins programme.
Private view: Wednesday 5 October 2022, from 6pm to 9pm, in the presence of the artists.
Works available to view online from Thursday 6 October 2022.
