Philippe GELUCK LE CHAT AU CHÂTELAIN - Ouverture les dimanches 23 avril, 30 avril et 7 mai de 11h à 17h.
Presentation
While his 22 monumental bronze sculptures are displayed in the Parc de Bruxelles...
... from 10 March to 13 May, Philippe Geluck will simultaneously be showing a collection of new work, drawings, screen prints, paintings and objects, at the Huberty & Breyne gallery in place du Châtelain. Having enlivened the walls of the Musée Soulages de Rodez, Caen's City Hall Scriptorium, Paris's Musée en Herbe, the Huberty & Breyne's avenue Matignon gallery and that most famous of art fairs, the BRAFA, the mischievous Cat is decamping to its all-time favourite city to amuse and delight its Belgian fans.
Geluck makes us laugh, of course, with his ever fresh and original graphics but he also makes us think. He takes us on a journey through the world of art history, dialoguing with his "fellow artists" ; be they Picasso or Fontana, Cézanne or Buren, Warhol or Vermeer ; and paying homage to his distinguished predecessors in a manner that is sometimes impudent but always tender.
The exhibition also sheds light on the evolution of those 22 bronze giants, revealing the sketches and maquettes that underpinned the final sculptures: Geluck, graphic artist turned painter and sculptor, has thrown open the doors to his studio and allowed us a glimpse inside.
The artist also has a couple of surprises in store for us. He has created a series of works for very young children destined to be hung at child height. AND ... he is showing, for the first time anywhere in the world, a 21st original-size bronze sculpture which remains an enigma, aside from its title, TRAGÉDIE DE RACINE.
This multi-facetted exhibition is also an opportunity to view the magnificent photographic work of Thomas Van den Driessche (Studio FiftyFifty), who has been following the fortunes of Geluck's "wandering Cat" for the last 4 years and more. Another chance to look behind the scenes !
