TEBO Rétrospective
Presentation
Captain Biceps, Raowl, Mickey, the Smurfs, Herbert the duck and Marvin the dragon… What unites these legendary characters is that they have all sprung from, or been manipulated by, the pen of French cartoonist Tebo. Whether Tebo is co-authoring comic albums with the likes of Zep, Trondheim or Sfar or creating characters of his own, in every one of his offerings the reader senses a boundless energy, an infectious good humour and a readiness to delight and transport. His work is aimed at the very young and adults alike, appealing to the widest of audiences. On every page, Tebo produces his modern version of slapstick-cum-burlesque through smooth manoeuvres and elegant pirouettes. His drawing style is a constant balancing act and his precise and flowing lines always support his meaning, serving to create absolute clarity. This exhibition brings together a selection of original plates from the various albums Tebo has produced over the last twenty-plus years, together with a handful of less well-known drawings, including – a particularly rare phenomenon – some in colour.
