Presentation

Marc Breyne and Alain Huberty are delighted to be bringing you a selection of humorous drawings by Jacques Faizant. After a brief stint in animation, the editorial writer properly embarked on his graphics career in 1945, producing a  cartoon strip for children  before diversifying and launching himself as a press illustrator and later political cartoonist. He also wrote a number of novels, some of them devoted to his other great passion, cyclotourism. Faizant's forty-year career at the French daily newspaper Le Figaro made an impression on generations of readers. And his old ladies, published in the weekly magazine Paris Match, were no less successful. Faizant's illustrations display a formidable grasp of his medium and an extraordinary technical flair in terms of both scene setting and use of colour.
