Ronan Toulhoat was born in 1984, in the department of Yvelines, in Northern France. He has a Masters' degree in contemporary history and works as a graphic designer, illustrator, story-boarder and freelance designer.

Toulhoat has collaborated on several projects with comics writer Vincent Brugeas which have received considerable critical acclaim.

As an illustrator, he has been extensively involved in creating visuals for book covers, movies and video and board games.

From 18 February to 5 March 2022, the Huberty & Breyne Gallery is delighted to be showing the original plates from La République du crâne, published by Dargaud and available in bookshops from 25 February 2022.

This pirate adventure is stunning in more ways than one - an exciting story backed by terrific graphics, it references an area of history all too often neglected by popular novels and films. The pirates of the 18th century were not simply the scourge of the high seas, men driven by a lust for gold: they were also the precursors of modern democracy, seeking freedom, equality and the collective sharing of wealth.

Ronan Toulhoat is without question one of the most talented illustrators of his generation. He is as comfortable working in black and white as he is in colour, and adept enough to keep a conversation going with the history of art while never losing sight of his own unique approach.

Signing session : Thursday 24 February 2022, from 5pm to 8pm.

Works available to view online from 18 February 2022.
