Presentation

The Huberty & Breyne Gallery in Bruxelles is delighted to be hosting its first exhibition, organised in three sections, celebrating the work of Jean-François Charles, whose impressive Artbook has just appeared with Éditions Casterman.
The first part of the exhibition will be devoted to the artist's large paintings - watercolours, acrylics and, most notably, his astonishing oil pastels in the style of the Impressionists - and will showcase a selection of the finest works taken from the newly published Artbook. A sizeable retrospective will also focus on the most beautiful panels and covers produced by the artist for his best-known series in direct colour: India Dreams, Ella Mahé, War & Dreams, L'Herbe Folle and China Li. The third section, meanwhile, will be dedicated to a selection of drawings, posters and watercolours executed by the artist over the last decade, its subject matter ranging far and wide, from America's great open spaces to the Opal Coast in northern France and Belgium's Pairi Daiza zoo.
This exhibition showcases the great variety of styles adopted by Jean-François Charles and his impressive technical mastery. Above all, however, it demonstrates how the artist succeeds in transporting viewers in time and space through paintings whose subject matter and gentle style are a source of invariable charm.

Works available to view online from Saturday 4 December 2020.
