DRAWING NOW Art Fair, Europe's first contemporary art fair dedicated exclusively to the art of drawing, is changing its format for the 2021 edition and presents Drawing Now ALTERNATIVE!
Some forty or so galleries are joining forces and offering the public an alternative event that is due to take place in a former department store at 42 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris 12e.
Visitors will be invited to sign up for a fixed time slot so they can enjoy their visit in complete comfort and in accordance with health and safety precautions.
Huberty & Breyne is taking advantage of this event to show a new series of drawings by François Avril.
For more than thirty years now, François Avril (born in Paris in 1961) has been switching back and forth between the worlds of Comic Strip and Contemporary Art.
And over the course of a career that began with magazine and publishing work in the 1980s, and has led more recently to showing his paintings in galleries, Avril has developed a distinctive approach to his art. What inspires François Avril is landscape - urban and rural - and his works offer us a way of looking at the world around us that is both new and poetic.
For Drawing Now, Huberty & Breyne is showing a series of recent drawings that the artist has made on precious old paper. Working on this gorgeous medium - enhanced with the marks of time - Avril conjures up a series of peaceful urban scenes and evanescent landscapes while following a process he himself describes as "looking and observing, stylising, extracting and then adding and recomposing". Through the subtle interplay of lines and grids, the artist conveys impressions, recreates memories of familiar or imagined places, and encourages in the viewer a state of delightful reverie.
Appointments from Thursday 10 June to Sunday 13 June, at 42 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris 12e (Bastille metro station). Parking available opposite.
