BRUXELLES | Châtelain

18 Oct > 23 Nov 2024

Presentation

From 18 October to 23 November 2024, Huberty & Breyne will be hosting the first Brussels exhibition of work by the multimedia French artist Stéphane Blanquet. Blanquet immerses us in a strange and unfamiliar universe, where elements of the human body are placed within disquieting landscapes to form what appears to be a single organism. His is an art of metamorphosis, which challenges the viewer in ways that are both hard-hitting and subtle. A key exponent of a type of art that lies midway between figurativism and art brut, Blanquet regularly shows his work in institutional settings and alternative venues, in both Europe and Asia.

The exhibition, entitled Écume mercure au plexus, encompasses a selection of works in a variety of media ? drawings, paintings and tapestries. It includes a new series of 100 drawings executed in blue ink, ?Plexus Mercure?, an explosion of fluid forms, where the masculine and the feminine proliferate and merge, powerfully and subtly, metamorphosing and fusing in climaxes of desire.  Autobiographically inspired large-format paintings (210 x 300 cm), in monochrome red and teeming with detail, will also be on show, alongside magical tapestries woven in silk and wool. The result is an experience that wholly immerses us in the artist?s visual universe.
