A young prince isolated in a gloomy residence near the sea meets a lighthouse keeper. The latter makes him discover the strange and wonderful world of Taxandria, a post-apocalyptic world today headed by a tyrant who banishes all images, photos and drawings... for Raoul Servais, this film is the work of a lifetime.
Already awarded a Palme d'Or for his short film Harpya in 1979, the founder of the "Animation" section of the Royal Academy of the fine arts in Ghent is looking to take his project to the next level and commissions François Schuiten to design the graphic setting of Taxandria.
Schuiten then produces out of the storyboard of Raoul Servais, red chalk drawings that will then be taken as a model by the animation studios to produce drawings and celluloïds. These images will be used for the film sets in which actors will be incorporated. Taxandria is a poem, an ode to surrealism and freedom of expression. Huberty & Breyne invites you to immerse yourself in this universe.
