Presentation
From 30 April to 29 May, the Huberty & Breyne Gallery is celebrating the world of cinema with a ground-breaking new exhibition entitled "45 ARTISTES FONT LEUR CINÉMA".
Cinemas are in crisis at the moment and, in response, Alain Huberty has called on the illustrator David Merveille to produce an exhibition designed to reignite the public's enthusiasm for cinema-going.
As curator of the exhibition, David Merveille has set forty-five artists the challenge of expressing what cinema means to them. Visitors to the exhibition will be treated to a great many new and previously unpublished works, from film posters revisited to portraits of actors via objects that have played a significant role in the history of cinema.
Philippe Dupuy, François Schuiten, Philippe Geluck, Jean-Claude Götting, Joëlle Jolivet, Manara and Rebecca Dautremer are just some of the many big names from the world of comics that have responded to the challenge.
Promising younger artists will also be contributing - Filippo Fontana, for instance, with his reinterpretation of that well-known monster Godzilla.
Cinema has inspired a great many artists, both directly and indirectly. Some are even involved in frequent collaborations with the world of cinema, one such artist being Rebecca Dautremer, whose fabulous story Kerity et la maison des contes has been made into an animated film.
"45 ARTISTES FONT LEUR CINEMA" offers a means of reconnecting cinema and its public through the medium of drawing and imagination as exercised by the greatest names in illustration. Add to this the opportunity for viewers to set eyes on some exceptional objects presented by Theatrum Mundi, such as a lifejacket used in the filming of Titanic, some of the real Chewbacca's hairs from Star Wars and patches worn in Batman...
